Programs and Services

Our core of professionally-trained case managers work as an integrated, community-based team to deal with the whole person and their array of needs as they transition back to the community. We use a “wrap-around” approach which integrates the many professionals and supportive family members and friends into the delivery of services.

Trained Blessing Way professionals provide Life skills training at our host site and in other locations. A group discussion context is used to focus on skills needed for successful readjustment, such as, anger management, conflict resolution, building healthy relationships at home and at work, dealing with courts and other institutions, and job preparation. Contact the Blessing Way office for times and locations.

We provide personalized coaching, guidance, and spiritual counseling for those encountering barriers to reentry, recovery, and community reintegration. This service is available by request throughout the week for participants of The Blessing Way. Supportive family members and friends are welcome to accompany participants.

We provide social service referrals for jobs, housing, mental health and substance abuse treatment, and emergency needs. Registered Blessing Way participants and their family members are also eligible for emergency assistance, such as, food, transportation, energy assistance, prescriptions, and other emergency needs.

Our host site, St. Peter’s and St. Andrew’s, provides food for Blessing Way participants and their families on Tuesday mornings and Thursday afternoons. Please call 401-861-0441 for details.

Our spiritual circles are non-denominational and contemplative in nature. The focus is on care of the human spirit and inner healing. They provide a forum for holding one another accountable for growth and change. Each circle meeting includes a check-in; a guided or silent meditation; sharing of concerns; a spiritual topic for the week; and a circle closing. Supportive adult family members or friends are welcome to accompany participants.

Circles meet in the evenings weekly at our host site in the Mt. Pleasant neighborhood of Providence. They are free, optional, and open to all registered participants and their family and friends. Please call our office in advance for times, days, and locations: 401-350-0021.

Blessing Way graduates who successfully reintegrate into the community can become Peer Leaders. They model the principles of recovery, good citizenship, and emotional and spiritual growth in their daily life and provide leadership in various aspects of the organization (Board of Directors, Speaker’s Bureau, and staff positions).

A small amount of transitional housing is available in the community for eligible, case-managed participants to allow enough time to readjust to the community, find a job, and locate more permanent housing. The maximum stay is 90 days. Participants must obtain employment within 30 days and pay 30% of their pay to The Blessing Way. For more information, please call the Transitional Housing Manager at 401-432-6093.

We are very aware of what an important role supportive family and friends play in a successful reintegration into the community. Blessing Way has paid, professionally-trained Family Outreach Workers who provide support and guidance to family members of our clients. Frequent networking opportunities are provided through our “Food, Family, and Friends” supper programs held at the Blessing Way host site. Child care is provided as well. For details, please call our office 401-350-0021.

Each year we collaborate with several churches in Rhode Island to offer a huge Christmas party at our host site for children and families of Blessing Way participants and offenders. Children are provided crafts, gifts, and games. (Volunteers are needed in November and December for this event.)
